View tag details and customize tag visualization

You can use Tag details to emphasize, shift and change appearances of a certain tag in the focus chart and obtain more details about the tag itself. The following items are discussed in this article:

How to emphasize a tag

It is possible to bring a tag to the foreground and move other tags to the background so that the tag of interest has better visibility. To do this:

  1. Open the tags menu  .
  2. Click on the tag of interest in the active tag list. The tag field will now expand to show more details and emphasize the tag in the focus chart.
  3. Click on the tag to undo the emphasis.

Tag name, description and units of measurement.

TrendMiner displays tag name, description and units of measurements based on the historian configuration. Tag type (analog, digital and discrete) is also derived from the tag settings in the data historian. Updating these properties from TrendMiner is currently not supported.

The status of the indexing progress is displayed. When a tag is loaded for the first time, the indexing is started. If indexing is in progress, the dot in front of the name will fill up.

Different historians can be connected to TrendMiner. The origin of the current tag is displayed in the tag details.

Tag details can be viewed by following these steps:

  1. Open the tags menu.
  2. Click on the tag of interest in the active tag list. The tag field will now expand to show more details.

How to change the tag color

  1. Open the tags menu.
  2. Click on the colored dot in front of the tag you want to change. A color picker menu will pop up.
  3. Choose your new color.

Manually selected colors for tags are automatically remembered for future use. Color preferences are user specific and only affect the active user.

Note: default tag colors may vary across sessions, since default color assignment is based on the order in which tags are added.

How to change scale settings of a tag

Autoscaling is applied for all tags by default. Tag scaling can be changed manually:

  1. Open the tags menu.
  2. Click on the tag of interest in the active tag list. The tag field will now expand to show more details.
  3. Enter your desired 'Minimum value' and 'Maximum value' in the 'Scale Settings' field.

Manually changed settings are stored for later use, for the active user only.

How to shift tags in time

Tags can be shifted in time to compensate for process delays.
  1. Open the tags menu.
  2. Click on the tag of interest in the active tag list. The tag field will now expand to show more details.
  3. Use the shift icons at the bottom to shift by 1 minute (small shift icons  / ) or 10 minutes (large shift icons  / ) to the left or right.
  4. Alternatively, enter a shift value in the 'Shift' field. Examples of valid values are:
    • 2h 30m (for 2 hours 30 minutes to the right).
    • -10m 30s (10 minutes 30 seconds to the left).
    • 1d 2h (1 day 2 hours to the right).
  5. To reset a shifted tag to its original position:
    • Open the tag details, and use the shift reset icon  in the middle of the bottom icon row.
    • Alternatively, enter '0' (zero) in the 'Shift' field.

Note: a white arrow will be visible in front of the tag name if the tag is currently shifted in time. Shifting tags is also demonstrated in one of the deep dive videos at the bottom of this article.

Interpolation type (only for AspenTech IP21)

Tags are interpolated linearly by default but the interpolation type can be changed to stepped interpolation if desired. This option is only available for AspenTech IP21.

  1. Open the tags menu.
  2. Click on the tag of interest in the active tag list. The tag field will now expand to show more details.
  3. Change the 'Interpolation' field from 'Linear' to 'Stepped'.
