Tags and attributes are definitions used in TrendMiner to refer to time series data within a time series archive, like Osisoft PI, AspenTech IP21, ...
An analysis in TrendMiner starts by adding these tags or attributes to your active tag list. To ensure you have the right data sets in your analyses, it is essential to understand how to find, select and work with tags or attributes.

How to add tags or attributes
Adding tags via the asset browser
One or multiple tags and attributes can be added to the active tag & attribute list via the "Search tags & attributes" browser by entering a name in the search field located in the top bar.
You can either look for specific tags or browse through the asset structure and add tags which are attached to a specific asset. The asset structure can be defined in TrendMiner or synchronised from an PI Asset Framework.
Clicking on the "Search tags & attributes" link in the top bar opens a modal where you can look for tags in the tab "Tags" and attributes in the tab "Assets".
More information on adding tags and attributes using the asset browser can be found on the following link.
Note: The quick search field will display all full or partially matching tags after typing in three characters.
Note: wildcards (*) are available to specify more advanced naming patterns. E.g., 'C101*temp' will match all tags for which the tag name starts with the string 'C101' and ends with the string 'temp', even if other characters appear in between.
Adding tags from saved views
Tags and attributes can also be added via "Saved views" as active components from another view. Saved views can be accessed from various locations.
- One possibility of finding saved views is on the landing page of TrendHub, where the link "Work organizer" opens the Work organizer side panel, prefiltered on TrendHub views.
- The same side panel can be found by clicking on the "Work organizer" link in the "Saved views" menu in the menu bar.
- As a final option, the complete work organizer can be opened, which can be found in the top bar.
For the options showing a Work organizer side panel, you can look for the desired view in the side panel. In the work organizer tab, you can simply search for your desired view there. Once a view is clicked a second side panel opens with more details of that view.
Selecting the option "Only tags and/or attributes" on the right-side panel and clicking the confirm button, will load all included data references of that view into your current view.
Adding tags through the recently used list
As a final option, tags and attributes that have recently been used are also listed in the "RECENTLY USED" tag list which is by default opened on the "Tags" menu. This "RECENTLY USED" list is collapsible and can be toggled open/closed.
Clicking on the plus icon next to one of the tags or attributes in the list, adds that data reference as an active one. Clicking on the minus icon
next to one of the tags or attributes removes that data reference from the recently used list.
How to hide tags or attributes
- Open the tags and attributes menu.
- Click on the eye icon
next to an active tag or attribute to toggle its visibility.
Hidden tags and attributes will stay in the active tags & attributes list but will not be considered for some functionalities throughout the application and will not be present on the chart.
Visualizing those hidden tags or attributes again is simply done by clicking the eye icon .
How to remove tags or attributes
- Open the tags and attributes menu.
- Click on the remove icon
next to the active tag or attribute that you want to remove.
Deselected tags or attributes will be moved to the recently used list for quick access in case you should need them again.
Note: There is also a 'Hide all' and 'Clear all' option under the 3-dot button in the active section header on the right. The recently used section has the same button but only the 'Clear all' option.
Modes of Chart Visualization
Once a tag or attribute is added as an active one, it is visualized on the Focus chart. The Focus chart, which is located on the right side of the left menu, can visualize your data in several ways. The default visualization is Stacked trend, which visualizes your tags in individual swim lanes.
