How does indexing work?

Indexing is a process of creating optimized columnar representations for tags that allow fast interactive analysis (visualization of large time periods, searches, causal discovery, etc.). Indexing happens at a predefined system-wide resolution setting and has to be performed once per tag. Batch indexing can be performed to index a large number of tags simultaneously.
